Gutless Sharks down 0-2
Dear Sharkies,
How’s that Presidents’ Trophy lookin’ right now!? What’s that? Oh, you get home-ice for the Cup finals with that thing? Oh, ok… well, it’s a glorified, meaningless piece of crap and it always has been. How many times do we actually see both 1-seeds face-off in the finals?? Very rarely. And yet, you thought you had won something by claiming that nice and shiny Presidents’ Trophy with 117 points.
Now look where you are… down 0-2 to your in-state rival Anaheim… the 8th-seeded Anaheim Ducks, mind you… with your heads up your asses! Y’all are 0/12 on the power play, where you were ranked 3rd in the regular season… the season that really matters out in San Jose. You’ve outshot the Ducks 79-43, but have been stoned by a goalie with absolutely no playoff experience. You guys have let your great fans down once again. They get their hopes high that Lord Stanley is coming to town, and y’all lay a big, fat egg.
These 2 games have shown me a few things about you. You have no guts, no true leadership, and you’ll never win a Cup with the current player personnel. I have a new game for San Jose fans… Where’s Marleau? (Instead of Waldo). Anyone know where the captain is? Because I sure haven’t noticed him the last 2 games. You can basically play this game with anyone from your star-studded lineup.
This was supposed to be your year... a new boss behind the bench... more players with a Cup pedigree... home-ice throughout the playoffs. But a week from now, you’ll be cleaning out your lockers and boarding the first plane that leaves the Bay Area. You will not beat the Ducks in this series… it’s not going past 6 games if you’re lucky enough to win 2 games. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Get ready for 5 horribly long months, Sharks fans…
Regards,
Ryan (director of RLD)

In all seriousness… the Sharks are toast. I see no reason to believe that they will win 4 of 5 against Anaheim and move on. Jonas Hiller has been terrific, but the defense in front of him has been even better. Niedermayer and Pronger are really limiting San Jose’s pressure, even though the shot count is heavily in the Sharks’ favor. In basketball, they talk about offensive rebounding being a big key. Well, San Jose cannot pounce on their own rebounds, while Anaheim at one point picked up like 5 straight offensive rebounds in the 2nd period. Sorry for the basketball terminology; but it’s true… San Jose usually kills teams by firing shot after shot until they score. Anaheim’s having none of it, and is making themselves look like the 1 seed.

If you've been a follower of the RLD long enough, you might remember that i have a HATE-FEST for Yahoo! hockey writer Ross McKeon... the dude is a closed-minded terd. Anyways, his post a couple weeks ago has me smiling now (read here)... and oh, how things can change (read here).
Other morning musings…
Vancouver too much for St. Louis
I’d like to see a time-of-possession stat for the 2nd period… because Vancouver flat out owned most of that period. They’re easily one of the best 5-on-5 teams in the league; and while they did not score once at even strength last night, they created 2 power plays by their dominant puck possession. St. Louis grew more and more frustrated, and committed a couple unnecessary penalties. They don't know how to stop the cycling... they chase the puck, not anticipate where it will end up. And unlike the Blues, the Canucks capitalized on their power plays, going 3/4 on the night. Andy Murray’s club can look at the special teams statistics as to where they’ve lost 2 of these 3 games. They’re 0-for-3 on 5-on-3 advantages in the series… and 1/17 overall on the power play.
Also, one of my keys for the Canucks going into this series was to get offense from the blue line. Sami Salo has led the charge and is stepping up big time. He has 1 goal and 3 assists so far in this series; he’s been great on the power play. Before I move on, the Sedin twins are in a world we've never seen before. They're going to the hard areas and getting knocked around. But this time, they're fighting back and playing playoff hockey!
Vancouver is proving to be one of the more dangerous teams in this playoff field. Luongo has been magnificent, and the special teams are clicking on all cylinders. Once they wrap up this series in 4 or 5, the other 3 teams that advance in the West do not want to face this team…
Pang > McGuire
Note to NBC: Please put Darren Pang between the benches from now on instead of Pierre McGuire. McGuire is too repetitive. He has a man crush on Philly’s Mike Richards. I didn’t count, but he complimented Richards’ leadership way too many times. I’m trying to enjoy the game, and McGuire is screaming into the mic how great Richards is… I don’t wanna hear that! Talk about the intensity on the ice or the things being said on the benches between the two teams (keep it G-ratedn though). We all know that all captains show great leadership on and off the ice. IMO, McGuire needs to stay with TSN and annoy the Canadian viewers.
On Saturday, Darren Pang was great between the benches in Washington. His ice-level analysis was awesome, and he’s not annoying to listen to. He’s my favorite color analyst in the league – Pang is the color guy for the Coyotes, in case you didn’t know. There are rumors floating around that McGuire could be a candidate for open GM positions… please take one of them, Pierre! Then ‘Panger’ can fill your small shoes and do a much better job.

I didn't really have many nice things to say today, huh?? That's ok, at least the Sharks are on the brink and my Cup favorite is making myself feel smart for once.
P.S. Lindsay Soto is hockey’s Erin Andrews!
