This is why the Stanley Cup Playoffs are the best. Anaheim gets outplayed from the 3rd period on, and the checking line center becomes the hero for the Ducks in triple overtime. Carolina wasn’t very good in Game 1, leading many to think the same result would happen in Game 2… not! Cam Ward stole the show and now the series is deadlocked.Even though the Ducks were heavily outshot from periods 3-5, did you really think Detroit would end up winning that game? I didn’t think so, either. The whole overtime I expected the Ducks to prevail… they just were not going to fall down 0-2 in the series. It almost felt like Game 5 of the finals last year, just without the Cup being on the line.
Ryan Getzlaf has probably been the best player in these playoffs. He’s literally turning into one of my favorite players, and is someone that Joe Thornton should be studying on film while he’s chillin’ at home. Getzlaf has 13 points in the postseason, and has been included in all but 1 of Anaheim’s goals in this series. ‘Getzy’ also had defenseman-like minutes yesterday; he was on the ice more than Scott Niedermayer was… that’s insane! Pronger was the only Duck with more TOI than Getzlaf.
The Hurricanes took a complete 180° turn in last night’s game against the Bruins… they were 10-times better than they were in Game 1. Boston was lucky to only be down 2-0 after 2 periods. LaRose’s controversial non-goal could’ve gone the other way if the puck didn’t bounce back towards Thomas. And, the ‘Canes just simply outplayed the B’s. Chara & company had their chances in the final frame, but ‘Wardo’ closed the door on any possible comeback.
These playoffs have been awesome thus far. You can see a scenario where all 8 teams can win their respective series at this point. Last year by Game 3 of the 2nd round, you already knew that the Wings & Pens would cruise through the Avs & Rangers, respectively. That’s not the case this spring. Every series could be deadlocked at 1 after tonight, which will lead to much more thrilling action over the next 10 days!
