The big off-ice story this week will be the state of the Phoenix Coyotes. So that got me thinking… if the courts award the team to Jim Balsillie, and he’s successful in his attempt to move the team to Hamilton, would the NHL realign the divisions/conferences?? I think they’d only realign the divisions in the West… there’s no way you can have Hamilton in the Pacific Division. Here’s what I think it would look like:
- Central Division:
Chicago
Columbus
Detroit
Hamilton
Nashville
- Northwest Division:
Calgary
Edmonton
Minnesota
St. Louis
Vancouver
- Pacific Division:
Anaheim
Colorado
Dallas
Los Angeles
San Jose
What if the ‘Yotes relocate, but Gary Bettman gets his wish and has the team go back to Winnipeg?? It’s easy… keep the Central Division as is, and swap Winnipeg and Colorado. The Northwest Division would then have 4 Canadian teams + the Wild! Just my brain thinking out loud…
