A wild night of hockey!

- Flyers 6, Capitals 5 (OT)… I think we have an early candidate for the best game of the year! This game did not disappoint as the stars were out in Philadelphia. Mike Richards & company got the last laugh in the back-and-forth affair with Briere’s OT winner. Anybody still think Varlamov should be the starter?? I don't. I’ll have more on the Caps’ top line later...
- Wild 4, Ducks 3 (OT)… Anaheim’s 3-0 lead after 40 minutes quickly evaporated as Minnesota forced overtime, and ultimately won. J.S. Giguere looked like Swiss cheese in the last 20+ minutes, but didn’t much help from his teammates. The Wild capitalized on a couple stupid penalties by Ducks defensemen. This is a horrible loss for the Ducks, and they open up the season 0-1-1.
- Kings 6, Sharks 4… LA almost suffered an even worse loss than the Ducks, but Teddy Purcell nullified any chances of that happening. His weird goal from behind the net gave the Kings a 5-4 lead just 26 seconds after the Sharks knotted the game. This game also had a lot of hitting and fights. Certainly a wild and wooly affair!
- Oilers 5, Stars 4 (SO)… Edmonton and Dallas played patty-cake, alternating goals all night. Ales Hemsky’s simple little shootout goal decided it, however, and delivered the Stars their 2nd straight SO loss to open the season. One of the more important things I saw was the return of Brendan Morrow. He was hardly noticeable in the opener, but picked up 3 points last night. Dallas needs him to be healthy and productive to make the playoffs.
