To go along with our '30 in 30' off-season feature, we'll be asking a blogger from each team some of the burning questions surrounding their club this summer.
RLD: 1. Why should Henrik Sedin win the Hart over Crosby & Ovechkin?
Sean Zandberg: Because he scored more points with less time on ice than Ovechkin and Crosby did. When his bother Daniel went out with an injury early in the season Henrik elevated his game, which most people did not see as a possibility.
RLD: 2. Would Roberto Luongo be better off without the captaincy?
SZ: Yes. After a tough season he needs to focus on his play rather than any responsibilities that come with being a captain. He was the go-to guy for the media after games and didn't look comfortable all that often. I'd like to see less of that.
RLD: 3. Do you expect Mike Gillis to go after one of the top UFA defensemen come July 1?
SZ: Well he says he is planning on doing so, but I think it depends on the price tag of some of these defencemen. There are not a lot of quality D-men on the list that can play the 30:00 that Gillis wants, so you know the bidding war is going to cause huge raises for guys like Hamhuis, Volchenkov, etc. I know for sure that he is interested in Hamhuis.
RLD: 4. What does Gillis need to do for the Canucks to take the next step in the playoffs?
SZ: I think the biggest thing would be to add a little size and experience to the roster. The rest is up to the coach and the team to execute.
RLD: 5. Is Cody Hodgson ready to make the jump to the NHL?
SZ: That is something only Hodgson knows. He missed a lot of time with his back injury last season, so did that impede his development? Maybe. Maybe he'll come to Canucks camp healthy and be a standout. That is what I'm hoping.
