The New York Rangers are one of the Original Six franchises in the National Hockey League, which is something that the team should take pride in. This season marks the 85th Anniversary for the Blueshirts; and in order to make it a good one, the team needs to make things happen and get off to a good start.
That begins tonight as the Rangers travel to Buffalo to take on Ryan Miller and the Buffalo Sabres. Unlike the Blueshirts, the Sabres are coming off a season in which they made the playoffs before getting knocked out in six games in the first round to the Boston Bruins.
The Rangers could learn a lot from playoff-caliber hockey teams because those teams play with pride. They work their tails off every single game and do whatever is necessary to get two points.
That is not to say that the Blueshirts don't work hard, but last season there were often games where the team disappeared. If they want to clinch a spot in the tight and competitive Eastern Conference this season, that will have to change.
Going into the start of the regular season, the team and its players are all saying the right things. They are being realistic, yet hopeful that they can make the postseason and that they can do so by playing consistent hockey.
It all begins tonight for the New York Rangers, who will hopefully play with tons of pride this season and do the organization and its fans proud.
