Every other Friday, we’ll bring you an updated look at the candidates for the major awards around the league…
HART TROPHY
1. Sidney Crosby
Stats: 39 GP, 32 G, 33 A, 65 Pts, +20
Crosby’s on track for another Hart Trophy as long as he stays healthy.
2. Steven Stamkos
Stats: 38 GP, 31 G, 25 A, 56 Pts, +12
Stamkos’s production seems to be getting back to normal after a slight step back.
3. Henrik Sedin
Stats: 35 GP, 8 G, 39 A, 47 Pts, +12
Last year’s Hart winner is in the mix once again.
Other candidates: Brad Richards, Pavel Datsyuk, Daniel Sedin
VEZINA TROPHY
1. Tim Thomas
Stats: 27 GP, 18-4-4, 1.74 GAA, .947 SV%, 5 SO
A key reason why Thomas is the Vezina front-runner is his 11-1-2 road record.
2. Ondrej Pavelec
Stats: 27 GP, 13-8-4, 2.11 GAA, .935 SV%, 2 SO
Pavelec continues to impress and put aside his prior inconsistencies.
3. Carey Price
Stats: 35 GP, 19-14-2, 2.32 GAA, .921 SV%, 5 SO
The Habs are starting to crumble, but it’s not Price’s fault.
Other candidates: Jonathan Quick, Jaroslav Halak, Henrik Lundqvist
CALDER TROPHY
1. Logan Couture
Stats: 38 GP, 18 G, 9 A, 27 Pts, +7
Couture has 10 goals in 15 December games.
2. Jeffrey Skinner
Stats: 36 GP, 9 G, 17 A, 26 Pts, -3
You can sort of feel Skinner’s stock drop as has just three goals in the last 21 games.
3. Sergei Bobrovsky
Stats: 25 GP, 15-5-3, 2.46 GAA, .919 SV%
Bobrovsky is now splitting time with Brian Boucher and Michael Leighton, which could keep him out of the race in the end.
Other candidates: Jordan Eberle, Derek Stepan, Taylor Hall
NORRIS TROPHY
1. Kris Letang
Stats: 39 GP, 6 G, 26 A, 32 Pts, +19
Letang’s steady progression to where he is now is a silent, yet great story.
2. Dustin Byfuglien
Stats: 40 GP, 14 G, 25 A, 39 Pts, +6
I still can’t get over Byfuglien being a point-per-game defenseman this quickly.
3. Nicklas Lidstrom
Stats: 37 GP, 11 G, 24 A, 35 Pts, +1
Lidstrom looked to be slipping in the Norris chase, but has turned it back on.
Other candidates: Zdeno Chara, John-Michael Liles, Lubomir Visnovsky
JACK ADAMS TROPHY
1. Guy Boucher
Record: 22-11-5, 49 points, 2nd Eastern Conference
Tampa Bay has been a bit overshadowed by Atlanta’s surprising start, but lead the division.
2. Craig Ramsay
Record: 20-14-6, 46 points, 7th Eastern Conference
The Thrashers suffered a bump in the road in the last couple weeks.
3. Marc Crawford
Record: 22-12-4, 48 points, 3rd Western Conference
Crawford has his Stars in good position, but still face a tough road.
Other candidates: Mike Babcock, Joe Sacco, Dan Bylsma
