The Morning After: Yesterday’s scores:
Blues 3, Canucks 2
Coyotes 3, Capitals 2
Flames 9, Avalanche 1 Predictions record: 1-2
My 3 stars of the night:
1. Olli Jokinen, CGY (1 Goal, 3 Assists)… Jokinen had one of his best periods as a Calgary Flame before going down with a lower-body injury.
2. Curtis Glencross, CGY (2 Goals, 1 Assist)
3. Ray Whitney, PHX (1 Goal, 1 Assist)
Games of the Night: Philadelphia Flyers @ Tampa Bay Lightning
7:30 ET… TV: Local Networks Records: Overall: Flyers (36-14-5) … Lightning (34-17-5) Last Ten: Flyers (7-3-0) … Lightning (8-2-0) Away/Home: Flyers (17-6-3) … Lightning (19-6-2) Season Series: 3-0 Lightning
Players to watch: PHI- Claude Giroux
Giroux boasts a plus-11 rating and 15 points in the last 12 games. TB- Martin St. Louis
St. Louis has tallied nine assists against the Flyers this year.
Injury Report: PHI- Ian Laperriere (head, out) TB- Nate Thompson (concussion, doubtful), Ryan Malone and Mike Lundin (abdomen, out)
The Flyers and Lightning will meet tonight to wrap up their season series, which Guy Boucher’s squad has taken every tilt thus far. Philadelphia will attempt to break through and finally solve the Bolts. Tampa Bay has been up-and-down at home since the break, so they’re looking to string together wins and regain some lost momentum. However, I just don’t see them sweeping the Flyers… Prediction: Flyers 3, Lightning 2
--- San Jose Sharks @ Nashville Predators
8:00 ET… TV: Local Networks
Players to watch: SJ- Logan Couture
Couture does his best work on the road (26 points in 30 games). NSH- Shea Weber
Captain Weber has points in six of the last seven games.
Projected Goaltenders: SJ- Antti Niemi (2010/11 stats: 17-15-3, 2.56 GAA) NSH- Pekka Rinne (2010/11 stats: 20-14-5, 2.11 GAA)
Injury Report: SJ- Antero Niittymaki (lower body, out) NSH- Marcel Goc (upper body, questionable), Marek Svatos (knee, doubtful), Matthew Lombardi and Francis Bouillon (concussion, out), Cal O’Reilly (leg, out)
Some Sharks are calling this the ‘biggest game of the year.’ After dropping two straight, they’ll look to finish off their road trip on a high note. Nashville has won three of four and is battling with the Sharks for playoff positioning in the crowded West. Even though Rinne has had San Jose’s number in his young career, I think Team Teal gets on the board in this season series tonight. Prediction: Sharks 3, Predators 2 (OT)
The rest of tonight’s predictions:
Bruins over Maple Leafs (Lock of the night)
Canadiens over Sabres
Senators over Islanders
Canucks over Wild
Stars over Oilers
