RIP Derek Boogaard

There is some sad news tonight in the hockey world – Rangers forward Derek Boogaard has died at the young age of 28. Boogaard was found dead in his Minneapolis apartment today. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Here a release from the Rangers:
“Derek was an extremely kind and caring individual,” said New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather. “He was a very thoughtful person, who will be dearly missed by all those who knew him. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time.”

Boogaard played in 277 career games in the NHL (255 with the Minnesota Wild). On the ice, he was strictly known for being a fighter in the NHL; but he was a great guy off the ice and loved by everyone around him in the hockey community (just check out tweets from NHLers themselves). Our condolences go out to his family and friends.

Hockey is just a game. RIP Boogey Man.

Here is a montage of some fights from his early days in the NHL...
