Video: Flyers/Rangers madness

On a day where the Flyers and Rangers were supposed to be in the news because of the official announcement for the 2012 Winter Classic, things changed during tonight's preseason game at Wachovia Center. Not only did Philadelphia's Tom Sestito deliver a more-than-suspendable hit, but Wayne Simmonds was accused of shouting a homophobic slur at Sean Avery.

Sestito hit:

After the game, here was a tweet from New York Post's Larry Brooks:
Avery states that he was called homophobic epithet on ice by Simmonds.

Simmonds' response?

What Simmonds reportedly said should never happen, but it is something that is unfortunately said frequently on the ice. Unless you can get confirmation from an on-ice official that Simmonds indeed shouted a homophobic slur at Avery, the Flyers winger should avoid suspension. As for Sestito; if Jody Shelley got eight games for his hit last week, then Sestito should get at least (maybe more).

Brendan Shanahan has been a busy man of late. That won't change tomorrow.
